Top 5 Most Overrated Health-Food Trends

Recently, The Chicago Tribune released their list of the 5 Most Overrated Health-Food Trends of the year. As a dietitian, I will put myself out there and say that I completely agree. The one question I received most this year was "Should I switch to coconut oil?"
Take a look at the list and let me know if you agree. Are they overrated or do you think they are valid?

1. Super Juices
Why it's overrated: These juices are an expensive way of getting the nutrition you could get from fresh fruit.

2. Coconut Oil
Why it's overrated: It contains more saturated fat and less healthy fats than olive and canola oil.

3. Special Waters
Why it's overrated: Many special waters contain as much sugar as a can of soda. It's better to get your vitamins and minerals from real food.

4. Super Seeds
Why it's overrated: Although seeds are very healthy, the omega 3's in these seeds aren't as potent as those in fish and you need large quantities of seeds to meet your daily needs.

5. Natural Sugars
Why it's overrated: Sugar is sugar is sugar. The body doesn't know the difference. Just use less of all forms of sugar.
