Is that nutrition label telling you the truth?

After issuing a report in October 2009 encouraging food companies to review their food packaging and comply with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, the FDA commissioner yesterday delivered an open letter “on the importance of accurate nutrition labeling of food products.” With that came separate warning letters to 17 food product manufacturers stating that the labels on their products were misleading to consumers.

With Market Street's NuVal program, scientists and dietitians have worked tirelessly to come up with a system that unveils the truth behind labels that seem good for you but in the end may be trading one undesirable ingredient for another. Watch as WFAA (Dallas-Fort Worth's ABC affiliate) reporter Janet Saint James puts this theory to the test herself.
