Cranberry Craziness

Last night my boyfriend was watching The Food Network and one of the chefs was preparing a delicious Cranberry Chutney. He looked at me with confusion "I thought cranberry sauce only came in a can!" We laughed as we shared stories of the can-shaped-sauce that graced our Thanksgiving tables for so many years.
If you are accustomed to prepared items, I encourage you to try one fresh ingredient recipe this year. You might consider the Grown Up Green Bean Casserole from last week's blog or Cranberry Chutney. It is an easy recipe you can make the day before.
Cranberry Chutney
4 cups fresh Ocean Spray Cranberries (ON SALE 2 bags for $3)
1 1/2 cups Food Club sugar (ON SALE $1.99)

1 cup water
1 cup Simply Orange Juice (ON SALE 2 for $6)
1 cup golden raisins
1 cup walnuts (or Ellis Pecans 2 for $3)
1 cup chopped celery (ON SALE 2 for $3)
1 cup Granny Smith Apple, chopped with peel
1 tbsp grated orange rind
1 tsp McCormick ground ginger (ON SALE 2 for $5)

1. Combine cranberries, sugar, and water; cook uncovered over low heat for 15 minutes, stirring frequently
2. Remove from heat; stir in remaining ingredients.
3. Cover and refrigerate. Makes 7 cups.

Not ready to make your own? Don't worry.......I have canned cranberry sauce as backup this year ... in case my Cranberry Chutney doesn't work out so well.
