Super Spaghetti Supper

Here's a few pasta facts you might be surprised to learn.

It has been reported that there are over 600 different pasta shapes available worldwide.

Did you know that Thomas Jefferson is credited with introducing macaroni to the United States? It seems that he fell in love with a certain dish he sampled in Naples while serving as the U.S. Minister to France from 1785 to 1789. In fact, he promptly ordered crates of maccheroni, along with a pasta-making machine, sent back to the States.

Thanks to the modern grocery store we don't have to order pasta and have it sent from across the pond. At Market Street we have all sorts of pasta to serve as the foundation for your Italian dinner. One of the best ways to make a small change, with big results, is to take your favorite Italian recipe and make simple Trade Ups. A Trade Up is selecting an ingredient with better nutrition. Thanks to the NuVal system available in all our Market Streets, you can see at one simple glance which pasta would be a Trade Up. The higher the score the better the nutrition.

This week's Trade Up suggestion:

Skinner Spaghetti NuVal = 52
Barilla Plus Spaghetti NuVal =91

This is one of the best Trade Ups for families. Parents want their kids to have the health benefits of whole wheat pasta but kids usually like the taste of white pasta. Barrilla Plus Spaghetti offers the nutrition of whole wheat with a taste more similiar to white pasta.

So why does Barilla Plus receive a higher NuVal score? Barrilla contains more fiber, protein, iron, thiamin, riboflavin and folate.
