Tuesday Trade Up: Peanut Butter

Isn't peanut butter one of life's greatest gifts? Whether you prefer crunchy or creamy, on a celery stick or straight out of the jar, peanut butter can be a great addition to your diet. But don't be fooled by "reduced fat versions". Today, you can see we Traded Up from Reduced Fat JIF peanut butter to regular Food Club Crunchy Peanut Butter. Why? While reduced fat peanut butter does have less total fat, the fat that was taken out was the healthy unsaturated fat. You can see below in the nutrition facts that both peanut butters have the same 2g saturated fat but the reduced fat has less poly- and mono-unsaturated fat. The reduced fat also has double the sodium and more sugar.

So today is your day of freedom. You can return to your favorite regular peanut butter and know that you are getting better nutrition for the same calories as a reduced fat version.

If peanut butter can't be in your house or your kids lunch box, be sure to try all the different varieties of nut and seed butters we carry.
