What's New: National Diabetes Month

November is American Diabetes Month!

On September 22, Lubbock hosted a Diabetes Walk. Over 2,400 people WALKED (the most ever) and enjoyed the beautiful weather and great activities at Mackenzie Park! The income total to date is $272,770 gross! The goal was $285,000 (they are still hoping to receive more).

The walk money will be used for diabetes research, education, and advocacy! The American Diabetes Association will continue to work for a cure for diabetes!

A few stats:

  • Nearly 26 million children and adults in the US have DM
  • 79 million have prediabetes and are at risk for developing DM
  • the ADA estimates the total national cost of diagnosed DM in the US is ~$174 billion

The 2012 theme for American Diabetes Month is A Day in "The Life of Diabetes"

They are asking people to share a personal image of what a day in the life of diabetes is to them. The image can be a picture of them, family, or otherwise represent how DM affects their life. They also have a blog www.diabetesstopshere.org.

Be sure to sign up and take advantage of our "Easy Diabetes Shopping" Grocery Tours in DFW and West TX.
