Simple Steps to Lose Weight: Cut back on sugary drinks

One of the simplest and most effective ways to lose weight is to cut out/back sugar sweetened drinks (sweet tea, soda, energy drinks, fruit drinks, etc).

Below are some pictures from SugarStack.com revealing how many calories (mostly from sugar) is in some of America's favorite drinks. Below each picture you can see how many calories and ultimately pounds you could save per year cutting out one drink per day (and not replacing it with something else of equal calories).

You can do the same math. Multiply the calories in your favorite drink by 365 (number of days per year) then divide by 3500 calories (approximate number of calories in one pound of fat).

One 12 oz can: 140 calories - Giving up one per day, you could lose 15 pounds.
One 20 oz bottle: 240 calories - Giving up one per day, you could lose 25 pounds.
One 1 liter: 400 calories - Giving up one per day, you could lose 42 pounds.

One 32 oz convenience store cup: 364 calories - Giving up one per day, you could lose 38 pounds.
One 44 oz convenience store cup: 512 calories - Giving up one per day, you could lose 53 pounds.

One 52 oz convenience store mug: 585 calories - Giving up one per day, you could lose 61 pounds.

One 8 oz Energy Drink: 124 calories - Giving up one per day, you could lose 13 pounds.
One 16 oz Energy Drink: 248 calories - Giving up one per day, you could lose 26 pounds.

Many people drink several of these a day - so even cutting back on energy drinks could help you lose weight.

We aren't saying that you can never have these drinks or that you can't exercise off the calories from your favorite drink. The message to take away is that weight loss doesn't have to be a 21 day fast, a $100 program from late night TV or even hours spent at the gym. Weight loss can come with making tiny changes consistently.

What are your thoughts on cutting back on sugary drinks?
