Tuesday Trade Up: Natural Almonds vs. Roasted and Salted

In honor of Heart Month, we continue our post of Heart Healthy Foods with a trade up of Food Club Natural Almonds. Natural Almonds do not have any salt added which helps this delicious snack earn a NuVal score of 81 when compared to their salty sibling Food Club Roasted and Salted Almonds with a NuVal of 36.

Too much salt or sodium in the diet can cause you to retain fluid and put you at risk for hypertension (a chronic medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is elevated and causes the heart to work harder to circulate the blood). To protect your heart and prevent high blood pressure, the American Heart Association recommends consuming less than 1500 mg of sodium a day.
Trading up from a salty snack to Natural Almonds with no added salt means that you get a healthy food that’s a good source of protein, rich in healthy un-saturated fats, and helps prevent high blood pressure!

Try snacking on this: ¼ cup almonds & 2 table spoons dried cranberries
