Dietitian's Top Pick: Pluots

Pluots are an exciting hybrid between plums and apricots consisting of 75% plum. A pluot tastes like a plum but have the texture of an apricot. Pluots are not GMO engineered but are a result of generations of crossbreeding plums and apricots. Although pluots do not have a NuVal score at this time, both apricots & plums score a whopping 96!

When you pick out a pluot, make sure it is:
- firm
- plump
- red – pink

Pluots are a great snack for kids because they are sweet and also look really cool, which is why they are also called “dinosaur eggs.” They can be eaten cooked or raw or added to recipes that use plums or apricots. Pluots also contain potassium, Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Be sure to give this fun looking fruit a try! Hurry though, pluots are only in stores for a few more weeks.

Remember, all forms of fruits and veggies count!
